Status Update

Almost the End of the Year

And such a year it’s been. Good in some regards but bad in many others.

in any case, the first thing I’ve come to do is upload a new piece of artwork that I have been sitting on for several months (shame on me, I know).

Oil pastel on 16″ × 12″ canvas paper

I was commissioned to draw this by some dear family friends of ours; to memorialize the man on the right, whom had recently passed away.

Second of all, I finally got those security warnings that been plaguing my page for a while worked out, so we probably won’t have to worry about that for a while.

People’s Portrait Prize 2022

Well, the time has come at last.

“Sister, Brother-in-Law, and One More” and “One More in the Evening”, the two portraits that I did during the years of Covid, are finally on display at Contemporary Calgary for the 2022 People’s Portrait Prize.

Unfortunately, I wont be able the Awards Night on Dec. 8th due to prior commitments, but I believe that my portraits will be hanging until the 15th.

Should be plenty of time for the rest of you to see it.

New family member.

Chalk Pastel on 18″ × 24″ Mi-Teintes paper.

May I present to you Daphne Zeta Wilson. She is my niece who has just celebrated her first birthday today!

Now would be around the time I would be getting this ready for the People’s Portrait Prize, but there doesn’t seem to have been any word on it happening yet, so it is likely that it has been postponed again.

So far my family and I have survived the Coronavirus panic relatively unscathed. With any luck life will be able to get back to whatever passes for normal these days once we all get vaccinated.

An overdue painting.

Two things:

1.) I have finished another painting. This one has been in the pipeline for practically a year and I have been sitting on this since February. That was very regretful but I imagine anyone who visits this page regularly is used to it by now.

My new painting can be found in my gallery:

22″ x 18″ Acrylic on canvas.

2.) I now have a Patreon page.

I had been toying around with the idea of getting one for a while now, but then upcoming changes to their payment policies convinced me to take the plunge. I don’t really expect it to amount to much in the way of extra income, given how lax I am in making art and maintaining a web presence. Nevertheless, it’s probably a good thing to have going forward.

You can visit my page at the link posted above.

This really should have went up sooner.

Seriously, I finished this drawing in July.

For those who may be looking at this page, rest assured that I am still making art. I am almost finished another painting that I will upload on the next update.

As for other life stuff, I completed a 1st period carpentry apprenticeship in December. Not sure how this will affect my artistic practice, but we’ll see how things go.
